Once researched, this Technology unlocks the Tier 2 upgrade to the basic Orbit Defense System. The Tier 2 version functions identically, but is more dangerous to enemy fleets, dealing 150 damage to all ships in a targeted fleet per direct fire salvo. Its anti-invasion capability is also improved, able to destroy 50% of incoming troops in a raid or invasion attempt. Both the tech and the upgrade it provides are well worth getting for these reasons, although the direct fire can still be baited by an expendable Scout ship.

This version is still not quite as effective as the Tier 3 orbit defence stationed on player home worlds, which cannot be researched or constructed on other planets.

Each Tier 2 upgrade takes 24 hours to complete, and an upgrading Orbit Defence will not fire on any intruders/attacking troops in the planet's orbit. Players should consider using guard fleet(s) or multiple Orbit Defence platforms to defend their planet whilst the upgrade is in progress.
