The origins of the Akorokken are unknown. Seemingly incapable of deep space travel yet spread out amongst the stars. Questions about their past remain unanswered.
Akorokken thrive on water worlds and are rarely found elsewhere. Highly intelligent, cunning, yet particularly strange. The make an invaluable ally for any civilization despite their limited use in battle. Their superior intellect provides a substantial boost to a colony's Science Power. In-Game Description
The Akorokken are a Minor Faction that can be found throughout a galaxy. They prefer temperate planets, but are only found on planets covered mostly or entirely by water. When a planet with a native Akorokken population is colonized, their population automatically joins the colony and can contribute to the planet's development.
Benefits to a Colony
Upon colonizing a planet with an Akorokken population, they will immediately contribute four Science Power to the player's empire, just as if the player had built four Laboratory structures. This bonus is independent of the size of the Akorokken population, and has no effect on any further Laboratories that might be built on a world with an Akorokken population.
With a lower Strength of 0.5x, Akorokken are not effective fighters. Players are advised to build extra Military Bases manned by their chosen Major Faction to compensate for this.
Because the Akorokken inhabit water worlds, it is likely that at least some initial hydro adjustment will be needed to allow colonizing races to survive. When terraforming, the maximum possible Akorokken population will decrease as the planet's land mass increases, due to their Water affinity. Despite this, the Akorokken have reasonable synergy with all the organic Major Factions, but particularly the Ripchee, which also prefer predominantly water planets.
A previous version of the description for the Akorokken described their creation myth, stating that, "Deep beneath the ocean where only darkness dwelled, one lonely thought was born. And from this thought they emerged." If someone asks them about their origins, they would hear only the same legend of "Thought".
