Skregons can be found on cold planets, beneath the thick layers of ice and crystal. Deep under the surface of the planet, dozens of lucent cities spread out in every direction. Highly spiritual, but not so technologically advanced, Skregons believe that they once were a heart of the Primordial Crystal. And after the great shattering which created the current universe, they must guide those who are willing to follow them into the future.

Very calm and confident, Skregons are great philosophers and teachers, but not the best warriors to have by your side on the battlefield. The most impressive feature this species have developed is the armour-like shell that covers their whole body. Somehow this shell can resonate with the core of a planet and after some time it transforms into the same minerals the planet contains. As a result, Skregons work like living deep mining extractors. Description

The Skregons are a minor faction that can be found throughout the A3 Skirmish galaxy. They prefer cold, predominantly-land planets. When a planet with a native Skregon population is colonized, their population automatically joins the colony and can contribute to the planet's development.

Benefits to a Colony

When a Skregon population joins a colony, it will immediately begin deep mining the planet and provide those resources to the colony. They can only deep mine for a resource if there is/was a deposit on the planet, and will not mine the available surface deposit itself (accessible by Tier 1 and 2 mines). The mining rate is equivalent to having five Deep Mines constructed on the planet, and will not change with the size of the Skregon population.

Example - A player colonizes a planet which has both a native Skregon population and limbalt at 90% density. The planet will receive 165 Limbalt/h from the Skregon population, without depleting any remaining surface limbalt deposit.

Despite their description, Skregons are reasonably effective planet defenders with a Strength of 1.1x. However, their need for colder climates presents a challenge for those seeking to colonize their worlds, and it is likely that players will have to perform some climate adjustment in order to allow their chosen major faction to survive. Ripchee players in particular will struggle; while it is possible for Skregons and Ripchee to co-exist on the same planet, growth rates of both populations will be minimal, and is likely not worth pursuing in the long-term.
