Fleet Docks

From Outscape Wiki

Fleet docks are used to hold fleets. Docked fleets don't count against your empire's fleet limit - only active fleets do. So fleet docks enable your empire to stockpile fleets, ready to rotate them in or out of active service as needed.

  • You can build one fleet dock per planet
  • One fleet dock can hold between 5 and 25 fleets (depending on its level)
  • One fleet takes up one space in a fleet dock regardless of the fleet's size
  • Your empire can have as many fleets docked at one time as it has space for across all of its fleet docks
  • Currently there is only one type of fleet dock and it's built on a colony, not in orbit, but shipyards are planned to also offer fleet dock functionality in a future fleet dock version

Docked fleets

Fleet Dock Planet Management.jpg

  • Docked fleets aren't visible from the map
  • Any player can see how many fleets are docked at a planet while in that planet's orbit - but not the fleets themselves e.g. quantity/type of ships, how they're equipped (only the owner can)
  • Docked fleets are captured or destroyed along with a colony - so there are risks to docking fleets
  • Docked fleets contribute less points to the 'Grand Emperor' leaderboard

Colony is captured

  • Docked fleets become property of the colony's new owner when a colony with a fleet dock is captured
  • The colony's new owner can only launch and use those fleets if they are the same civilization e.g. a Ripchee player captures docked Ripchee fleets. Otherwise, the new owner can recycle the fleets for resources or leave them there.
  • The new owner of the colony can use the fleet dock for their fleets

Colony or fleet dock is destroyed/lost

  • If a colony has a fleet dock there is a chance it could be destroyed if the colony is bombed
  • A fleet dock could also be destroyed if the colony is lost or abandoned (like all other buildings)
  • If a fleet dock is destroyed, any fleets it was holding are also destroyed

Fleet repairs

Fleet docks cannot repair fleets (when fleet dock functionality is available to shipyards it will be possible for docked fleets to be repaired while they are docked)

Upgrading a fleet dock

If a fleet dock is upgraded any ships it's holding aren't accessible until the upgrade has completed

Usage

Docking a fleet

Dock Fleet Menu.png

Your fleet must be in orbit of a planet with a fleet dock with space:

  • With your fleet selected, click on your planet and choose the 'Dock fleet' option
  • Your fleet will instantly disappear as it enters the dock
  • Any resources your fleet was carrying - except for ordnance or olzine - are automatically transferred to the colony (including colonists and troops)
  • You're docked fleet won't count against your empire's active fleet limit until you launch it again

Launching a docked fleet

Fleet Dock Open.jpg

Fleets in a dock can be launched at any time - as long as your empire’s active fleet limit hasn’t been reached:

  • Open the fleet dock screen from your planet
  • Select the fleet you want to launch and choose the 'Launch' option
  • Your fleet will launch from the dock and appear in the planet’s orbit almost instantly - ready to use
  • If your empire has already reached its active fleet limit you will need to dock another fleet before you can launch a docked fleet
  • You cannot launch docked fleets that were captured from another civilization e.g. a Ripchee player that captures a Mankind planet with docked fleets cannot launch those fleets, only recycle them, but if a Ripchee player captures another Ripchee player's planet with docked fleets, they can use those fleets as their own

Research

Level 1, 2 and 3 fleet docks each need to be unlocked separately by researching the relevant technology (see 'Research to unlock' in the table above).

Constructing and upgrading

  • Level 1 fleet docks can be constructed directly
  • Level 2 fleet docks can be built only by upgrading a level 1 fleet dock
  • Level 3 fleet docks can be built only by upgrading a level 2 fleet dock
